Toying with Adsblacklist
I signed up on adsblacklist and it generated 136 URLs for me. Some of them looks familiar but many didn’t but I wanted to know if it had figured out some URLs I had missed.
I track the ad clicks on my blogs and I’ve built up a database of clicks going back a few months so I built a small app that accepted the list of URLs from adsblacklist and compared it with the clicks on my blogs. There were a few matches!
I removed a few of the URLs from my ad filter that I never saw clicked and added in the ones adsblacklist caught. After hitting “Save Changes” Google complained of duplicate URLs so I quickly weeded them out using the sort and uniq commands. I guess it’s a good sign that there were duplicates. By keeping an eye on clicks myself I’ve caught a few of the MFA sites.
For the record, here’s the ad filter list as it stands tonight. It may not change much until after Christmas Day because it’s probably not an indicative time of the year to compare advertising results! I hope most people will be away from their computers on the 25th!
